Presence and Refugium of Unionid Mussels in Presque Isle Bay

The project is vital to identify the presence of mussels in Presque  Isle Bay. Ortmann (1919, Memoirs of the Carnegie Museum 8:1-385)  found 21 species of mussels in Presque Isle Bay between 19 9-11.  Recent surveys found mussels in Thompson Bay, although their  abundance and diversity is decreasing. We propose a thorough search  to be conducted in other areas of Presque Isle Bay and to identify  site characteristics associated with mussels.
