Mussel Watch is a long-term monitoring program for environmental contaminants in US coastal waters and the Great Lakes. We will enhance its Great Lakes component by adding additional sampling sites in the Areas of Concern. This second-year of a two-year effort will sample from the Detroit River upstream to the St Louis River (WI/MN). In addition to mussel collections, sediments will be collected for chemical and benthic invertebrate community analysis. We will compare the levels of environmental contaminants in sediments and tissues at long-term Mussel Watch sites relative to newly established sites in the Areas of Concern.
