Integrated regional characterization of the Montérégie Est aquifer system, Quebec, Canada

The regional groundwater resources assessment project in Montérégie Est covers 9 000 km2 and includes watersheds of the Richelieu and Yamaska Rivers as well as of Missisquoi Bay. Approximately 28% of the 577 000 inhabitants use groundwater for their water supply. This paper
describes 1) the hydrogeological contexts defined on the basis of existing data and the work already carried out, 2) the integrated multidisciplinary approach used to characterize the study area using geological, hydraulic, geophysical and geochemical methods, and 3) the main questions to be
answered regarding the regional aquifer system.
